Geraldton Hospital has 100 hospital beds including a six bed HDU. It has a medical department (three consultant physicians), surgical department (three consultant surgeons and two orthopaedic surgeons), maternity unit (two consultant obstetricians), a paediatric department (two paediatricians) and 24 hour emergency department. In addition, Geraldton Hospital provides a range of services including chemotherapy, oncology, and renal dialysis, a hospital at home visiting service, respiratory and diabetic education, medical imaging, pathology and same day surgery.
Services include an inpatient rehabilitation unit and a day rehabilitation centre. Visiting specialists provide a range of surgical services.
Ramsay interns are attached to General Medicine and work in conjunction with the RMOs, registrars and consultants. Junior doctors are supported by the director of clinical training and the medical education officer. Formal teaching sessions occur twice weekly (Journal Club and Grand Round) and X-Ray meeting every other week.
Living in Geraldton is like living in the city but without the traffic jams. It offers beachside living alongside rural life with a fantastic microclimate. Geraldton is known as the Sun City because it boasts an average of eight hours of sunshine a day, all year round. The city offers swimming, fishing, yachting, wind surfing, lawn bowls, tennis, cricket, squash, pistol-shooting, go-kart racing, horse racing, golf, roller skating, cinemas, and even its own art gallery. An excellent range of restaurants and cafes, many featuring local seafood, are also available.
